Cardiff Kite Festival

Sun Apr 25, 2004 3:28 pm

This is a maybe, the proposed date is July 11th, organised by Scruffs & Cardiff Council.

Ex-grads have been asked to do a demo, but I'm not yet sure whether they'll be able to arrange an arena, seeing as it is on the Barrage. I'm nipping down this afternoon to have a look.

I'm sure that a trick demo would be very welcome too, if anyone would like to volunteer.

On the Barrage? Sweet! - plenty of chances to do some nice water work :D I was practising my tip-drags the other day at the beach - it's a bugger when they go wrong, mind....

Been down to the Barrage yesterday & today. Nice site. Good place to practice in the week, a bit crowded over the weekend though.

Easiest way to get over there is on the Land train, or the water bus if you can't face the humiliation of sitting on the noddy train. (Water bus is more expensive & less frequent though)

Is it the grassy bit just to the right of the bridges (as seen seen from Mermaid Quay)? I was looking at that the other day - should be dead smooth winds, but doesn't really look that big - what's the size like?

The wind was pretty good when I went down there, but the biggest place to fly?

....looking from Mermaid Quay if you see the fake sails on the barrage & look to the left of those, after a short while there's the kiddies playground & left of that theres a grassy patch that comes almost to the water's edge. You'd just about get a 300ft arena there, but you couldn't walk around front and back without getting your feet wet at least once.

was down in the bay today, saw where you meant! Must try there some time. I sometimes fly on the other side of the bay link road to Penarth, Hamadryad Park (not really big enough to justify the 'park' imho) and the wind can be good there when it's too low everywhere else. However it can get a bit too blustery sometimes as Jim will no doubt recall from the frst time we met up...
