Okay - thats called a turtle ... there might be other ways to get out ... but
try this ... give slack (arm forward) with one hand ... pull with the other.
This is not a hard pull ... gentle movement is all you need.

The kite should rotate. When its nose forward (fade position) ... pull with
both hands and and hte kite should unroll (half flip) upwards into another
fade. From here pull with either hand (gently again) to roll the kite out ...
and you can fly away.

Sounds complicated ... but its fun when you learn it.

Welcome to the forum !

Could be the kite too Ryder - the cheaper the kite the more it stays frozen in a turtle - before you give up - throw some more money at this problem. Just a thought. Try this new Prism E3 kite.
Kite Bag: Fearless - SUL, Light & Light/Vent. L'Atelier xt.z. Fearless SSUL Tattoo (SSUL). Fearless - Light & Light-Vent. (Tranformer - 2) SUL, Light (5PT) and Vent (7PT). GPS (Light and Vent-Light Custom/UNIQUE - 3PT)).

Don't listen to this tool ^^^^

Your kite is plenty tricky ... with a little technique / practice you'll be fine.

Taking a quick look at a 3+ minute clip of two merlins being flown, I see two occasions when the kite appears to have entered the 'turtle' and both times it is immediately recovered using the method described above by Frazer.

I wouldn't choose a Prism over L1...if you must throw money at the problem the JJF is an excellent kite or even the super cheap Jump is very capable.

The turtle might be quite shallow on the Merlin, so you may need to rock it to get the nose deeper or hit it as it enters the turtle.

The cheaper the kite? WTF? :banging:

NIce to see the video though, Mehler is really showing this kite is capable of a large amount of modern tricks: Comete, multilazy, bs-cascade.
I wasn't aware of that.

The Merlin's a fine kite, it should come around in the method Frazer says or another way is that you can move forward so the nose of the kite drops further down then pull sharply with both hands, the kite should then pop up into flight.

[michaelcaine/voice/on] Did you know that FracturedAxel was originally the Portsmouth kite club started by AndyS.[michaelcaine/voice/off]

Are you flying at Southsea Common, a few off us get down there occasionally.

Sorry to say but your kite has Lazy Kite Syndrom.

Once the kite is resting on its back it realizes it can stay that way and to heck with you.

You might try diluting some type of stimulant in water and pouring it on the kite. Otherwise just yell at it.

Note of Warning: Following both treatments at the same time may disorient the kite. Many on this forum take great advantage of a kites disorentation while others cause damage.

If you try the above therapies while working on some of the suggested flying techniques, the efforts should distract the kite long enough for therapy to work.

Full kite replacement, at this time, seems to radical for your stated reason. However, should all else fail, Trained Kiting Professionals are always available to assist you with a simple click on the "store" button.
