What's it called?

Wed Aug 31, 2011 3:24 pm

Whats the trick called where the kite flies to the right or left of the window then sort of flips and returns in the direction it came from. So your constantly flying left to right?

Appologies for my ignorance but i just love how it looks, and don't have enough lingo to figue which trick it is.

Sounds like a half axel to me. This the one you mean: http://reeddesign.co.uk/kites/tricks/halfaxel.html? The animation shows one half axel, but of course you can go left to right to left to right as often as you want.

It seems the most basic of tricks but many overlook it. Confidence of when and where you can and cannot perform a half axel makes a big difference when linking tricks together as a "filler" It's very basic and yet many can put an enormous amount of style into them. Just watch Mr Goff and the variety of styles that can be applied to theat one trick, slow and floaty, agressive and punchy or even a bit bouncy.

My half-axels show considerable variety....in quality of execution mainly.

In the context of the original post it is a particular sort of half axel AKA the kick turn.

Highly underrated trick, and one that is a little harder than it looks.

Enjoy it when you get it, it'll be well earned :)
