The 540 flat spin is similar to an Axel
in that it is a rotational, flat spinning trick with the kite
rotating belly down around its centre but, it differs in two
ways, firstly as the name suggests the kite rotates through
540 degrees during the trick, secondly the trick starts with
the kite diving downwards....
Fly the kite downwards from the top of
the window, pull both arms back and thenmove forward and throw
both arms forwards to kill the kite as in a pancake, as both
arms reach the end of the extension PULL 15 to 30 cm (6 to
12 inches) with one arm to initiate the rotation and then
push it forward again, keep moving forward to give plenty
of slack to insure the kite can complete the rotation. There
are a few key issues here to nailing this one, firstly the
movement must flow as one movement, if it is fragmented and
jerkey this trick doesn't tend to happen, secondly is the
pull, it has been my experience that the pull needs to be
fast and released immediatley, it also needs to be fairly
firm to give the kite the momentum it needs to rotate BUT
it is a pull and not a pop, i have found that popping the
line makes the nose of the kite cock upwards causing the rotation
to be not flat and generallt leading to TIP WRAPS :(
