At the end of the
wing the sail is connected to the wingtip using a tensioning device
- usually an elastic bungee. This provides the tension needed
to keep the sail flat and the leading edge curved and prevents
the upper and leading edge from separating in flight. There may
also be a trailing edge tension line connected here which keeps
the kite quiet in flight, and also a trick line running from tip
to tip which is designed to prevent the lines wrapping around
the wingtips when performing tricks.
The nose is where
the leading edges and the spine meet. It is reinforced with dacron
and webbing material to prevent the spars forcing their way through
the fabric during hard landings.
